GN01 - General Health & Safety Guidance

⚠️ READ THIS FIRST – BEFORE USING ANY HEALTH & SAFETY RESOURCES

Before you download or complete any of the Health & Safety templates, forms, or checklists in the Salon Owners United (SOU) library, please take a few minutes to read this guidance first in full.

This document (GN01 – Health & Safety Guidance) explains:
✅ Your legal duties as a UK salon owner and employer
✅ How to correctly assess and manage risks in your salon
✅ The importance of keeping your records, policies, and training up to date
✅ What each resource in the toolkit is designed for — and how to use it safely and correctly

Understanding the principles in this guide will help you get the most benefit from every resource and ensure you’re meeting your obligations under UK law, including:

• The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974

• The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999

• The COSHH Regulations 2002

• The PPE at Work Regulations 2022

📘 Please read GN01 in full before you complete or issue any Health & Safety documentation.

Once you’ve read it, you can choose to:
💡 Work through one area per week, or
🚀 Dive in and complete your compliance review in one go — whichever suits your workload best.

This first step will set you up for success and make sure every action you take protects your team, your clients, and your business.
